STEBICEF was selected to present Bythos scientific results during the Icelandic Fisheries exhibition Ice Fish Conference 2021 in September.
Following a call for abstracts by the Fish Waste for Profit conference held during the Ice Fish conference every year, Bythos was selected to present a paper during session 4 – “Pioneering By-product Utilization” and to sit on the panel of experts for the questions and answers session afterwards.
Ice Fish is one of the largest fisheries sector conferences in the world and attracts thousands of international visitors every year to learn about innovations in the industry. Since 2017, there has been a new off-shoot conference which runs parallel entitled “Fish Waste For Profit” to increase circularity and sustainability in the fisheries industry.
This event was then postponed until June 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the Icelandic Government. In an effort not to lose valuable scientific contributions, an extra online session was organized 16-18th November 2021. Dr Mauro presented the Bythos work on biofilms using chitosan extracted from Mazara Del Vallo red shrimp shells.
